1957 Kay: Stratotone K142 – RESERVED – Call

Posted on June 9, 2011 by Comments are off

This is an ultra rare 50′s Kay Stratotone. An early electric built in Chicago to compete with the Les Paul and with many similarities to the Harmony Stratotone of the era. It was also branded as an Old Kraftsman Speed Demon. Think it’s a ’57 but am unsure as I have seen some marked as being early 50′s models.

The neck-thru design and uber fat neck means big tone. The dual single-coil pickups deliver a classic retro sound and are hooked up to the coolest stack pots I have ever seen on a guitar. The neck is ridiculously beefy which matches the sound. Kluson-Deluxe tuners with pegs like old me’s teeth.

This guitar has the most amazing player’s wear. The neck laquer is down to the wood and the ultra-rare Silverburst finish body has a great elbow wear and cracked laquer finish.

1975 Univox: Les Paul Junior – SOLD – Call

Posted on June 9, 2011 by Comments are off

A hard to find and rare old bird. This is a mid 70′s – probably ’75 – Univox Les Paul Junior Limited Edition or sometimes called the Les Paul Special.

It’s a double cutaway with dual P90′s (which sound great) in a Wine Red. This one is Univox’s first glued on neck with a 22 fret Rosewood fretboard. Fast playing, great for gigging – reliable, solid and even sound.

This is an exact copy of the Gibson model and was nicknamed “The Lawsuit Model” Gibsonesque headstock, old-skool bridge tailpiece and two phat P90′s – sure you can’t go wrong. Really is a lush guitar. One of the nicest I have here.

1969 Gibson: EB-0 – RESERVED – Call

Posted on June 9, 2011 by Comments are off

The “Mudbucker” – Gibson’s top selling bass of the 60′s and 70′s. One of the most recognizable and renowned basses Gibson ever made. One of the world’s signature basses.

This is a ’69 Walnut Mahogany, single humbucker, or “Mudbucker” as it is more commonly referred to, that gives a super low, lumpy, phat, warm and mellow 60′s tone. It’s a short scale bass, which was very popular in the mid to late 60′s. As played by Jack Bruce, John Entwistle and Andy Fraser

It’s a classic bass sound. Really. I can’t emphasize enough how cool this thing sounds. A thumper rather than a twanger (like the 1444 in store). Amazing for 60′s style genres.

2007 Fender: Jaguar HH Baritone Special SOLD >>>

Posted on June 9, 2011 by Comments are off

Picked this one up in Liverpool’s only decent indie guitar shop. The rest are just box pushers. From a very hairy friend of mine working in there.

This is a 27 inch scale baritone guitar. I’m sticking it in the bass section for the laugh. It’s halfway in between a bass and a guitar. The concept was originally designed by our friend Nate Daniel when he released the first electric baritone, 6 string bass, in 1958. The 1373 had a a short run of a year and a half before being replaced by the 1444 (like the one in store).

Nashville went crazy for the baritone, that tic-tac Johnny Cash signature sound and Fender caught on quick and adopted the concept and released the now legendary Bass VI – an octave down – with a 30 inch scale.

The Bass VI was played by many of the greats including Jack Bruce, John Entwistle, Rick Danko, Noel Redding, John Frusciante and many more. Peter Green used the Bass VI during live performances of the Green Manalishi and the can aslo be seen in the videos and heard in the recordings of The Beatles Hey Jude, Let it Be and the Long Windy Road.

It was played by Harrison or Lennon when Macca played piano or guitar in many recordings and specifically my favourite Beatles tune Helter Skelter.

The Baritone Special is born of this guitar, a baby brother, a distant relative but it still has that deep down and dirty geneology in its soul.

Its a Double Dragster humbucker setup, with a Gibson-esque Tune-O-Matic vintage style adjusto-matic bridge and vintage style tuners. Was only available as a Black Top with full chrome knobs and control cover. Ace.

Our Imported Gitboxes

Posted on June 2, 2011 by Comments are off

The guitars of the 50′s, 60′s and 70′s, their designs, innovation and features are a cut above the rest. It was the Guitar’s heyday and a highpoint in guitar manufacturing. The time and the music created a huge market where a lot of large small and tiny music manufacturers could survive for a short period of time.

There was a lot of cool guitars and yeah there were lots of nice Fenders, Gretsches and Gibsons and they are the guitars that everyone remembers but the “Coolest” guitars, the most innovative guitars, the guitars that pushed design and feature boundries – well they were the Silvertones, the Danelectros, the Kays and Harmonys, the Hofners and all the other weird and wonderful small Japanese, American and European guitars.

They might have borrowed a few ideas from the big boys of guitar design and building but they in turn had their ideas adopted by the bigger companies when their ideas or designs were ahead of the game. Their affordable price enabled a generation to create a golden era of music, like cheap synths and drum machines enabled andother golden era of innovation and like the computers and software of today are doing as we speak.

These guitars are now collectable in their own right, especially as all the Fender and Gibson prices rise and rise these guitars are still relatively cheap in the collector’s guitar market for what they deliver. It’s the sound of the instruments, the pickups and the amps. It’s also the sound of the records we love and its the sound of the records, the kit and the instruments – it’s what we will always remember and connect with. The first time u play a guitar like this or any decent vintage kit – you will get it – you will make the connection. You will always remember the sound of it cause its what you have always been listening to and trying to emulate.

We Are You…

We are passionate about writing playing and recording great music. We love the processes and tools used in the past and the present to produce great music. We feel that all music is recapitulation and a reinterpretation of what has gone before, that the only thing that changes is the perspective of the creators and the knowledge that a good tool will always hold its value and can enable someone to paint a picture relative and fresh in its time .

We Want To…

Offer budding or experienced musicians and producers killer vintage guitars and basses to start with and in the mean time great we will be hunting down and finding vintage amps, synths, effects and recording gear. We want to import quality kit mainly from the US and Europe for re-sale in Ireland, the UK and Mainland Europe.
